Circular Innovation South Africa

Circular Innovation South Africa (CISA), is an initiative of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), hosted by the CSIR (Hosted Programmes), aimed at giving effect to the circular economy aspirations of government’s STI White Paper (2019), STI Decadal Plan (2022-2032), and the recently approved Circular Economy Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy (2024).

The activities of CISA are aligned with the mandate of the DSTI to strengthen Human Capital Development (HCD), Research & Development (R&D), and Innovation in support of a circular economy.

The South African government recognises the circular economy as a driver of economic growth and modern re-industrialisation. Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) play a key role in enabling the country’s transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.
